Individual Therapy

Welcome! I can imagine you found your way to this page because you want something to be different in your life and whatever that something is, it hurts or is uncomfortable.

Half my practice is made up of adult individuals who come in for one of three reasons:

  1. They have had big changes, losses or recent traumas in their life and they need help coping and re adjusting.
  2. They have a painful past and find themselves stuck repeating the same defeating behavior over and over and over again (self criticism, choosing bad relationships, perfectionism etc).
  3. They are stuck in a rut and feel bored and come in to therapy because they want to shift course and have a more meaningful life.

Bottom line, we all want to feel safe, loved and meaningfully alive. When we don't feel safe, loved and meaning we take on all kinds of psychological defenses and get confused with thinking all the things we are doing in our lives to defend, protect or distract ourselves is who we are. Often they aren't who we are, just what we have learned to do to wisely protect ourselves but the old behavior becomes habit and the brain just keeps doing its thing, repeating the same old same old.

I work with people who are facing:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Perfectionism
  • Fear of Being Close in Relationship
  • Fear of Being Alone
  • Fear of Being Assertive
  • Fear of Taking Risks
  • Not Feeling Good Enough
  • Dating and Partnering Dilemmas
  • Becoming a Parent
  • Trauma/ PTSD or an Abusive Past
  • Fear of Feeling Vulnerable
  • Feel Like They Are a Victim to Life
  • Not Knowing What One Feels or How to Feel
  • Intense Emotions that Take Over
  • Having a Hard time Making Choices
  • Lack of Meaning and Vitality
  • Challenging Family Dynamics

When we are challenged in any one of these areas and have been stuck there for awhile without growth, it can impact our sense of well being and jeopardize our ability to feel safety, love and meaning through our connections with others.

I have a direct, down-to-earth, heart-felt, and pragmatic style that helps clients feel safer to open up with me and face challenges. I do incorporate and blend body centered therapy with relational therapy meaning we talk as well as notice feelings and sensations in your body. Working through the body allows you to expand your ability tolerate feelings and sensations and really integrate into your very cells what you have gained from therapy and as a result make purposeful choices in your life rather repeating the old painful patterns. I hope that gives you a better sense of my individual work. If you have questions call or email me and we can set up a time to talk for a free consultation @ 415-520-5567 or traci@traciruble.com.
